Development sites in prominent locations fetched solid prices during last week's auctions, with investors flexing their financial muscle.
A Malvern development site fetched $2.75 million under the hammer on Thursday. Negotiating agency Teska Carson reported about 100 people turned out for the busy auction at 1387 Malvern Rd, near the corner of Tooronga Rd. A developer bought the site. On a good-sized block of 780sq m, the site has been occupied for 40 years by well-known gardening and building suppliers, Fulbry. Agent Marcus Higgins said: The owner occupiers are going to close up and retire. It's rare to get a block size in this area, and the price shows there is still huge demand for good sites like this, Mr Higgins said. It is believed the owners will be wrapping up in about six months, paving the way for a well-located development opportunity.
